Meet the Owners: Alex & Julie Veillette

In October of 2018, we became owners of an 80 acre farm. A family farm with a lot of history and memories.

Our dreams for this place have evolved and blossomed into establishing our very own homestead.

I have always felt a connection towards nature. Towards living a more self-sufficient lifestyle. Hay Creek Homestead provides us with a way to slow down and create a more wholesome life. We have the space to explore and expand our dreams. We will be able to raise our children on this farm and teach them about growing their own food, tending to the farm animals, and other life skills involving simplicity and responsibility. This lifestyle is important and will be well cherished. We hope you are as excited as we are to be on this journey with us.

A few random facts:

Julie:

1. I hate snakes. Like a lot.
2. I am a full-time accountant, specializing in taxation.
3. I’ve never met a potato I didn’t like… except re-heated baked potatoes.
4. I love trying new recipes and I can sometimes trick Alex into eating vegetables. (Thank you chocolate zucchini cake!)
5. I am an introvert. An INFJ to be exact – the rarest type.
6. I have been married to Mr. Homesteader since June of 2019.
7. I love bread. And donuts. And cake. And cookies – but only the soft & chewy ones.
8. I like to watch a movie only once. Why waste your time if you already know what happens?
9. I have never been to the ocean.
10. I am pretty good at anything I try, but darts is not one of them.
11. My greatest wish is to be a mom. I have wanted to be a mother since a very young age.
12. I love to read books, but like movies, I will only read a book once.
13. I have a photographic memory and a strong sense of smell.
14. I am a frugal person and used to be a crazy couponer – yes, I got free stuff and got paid money to “buy” items at the store using coupons.
15. I hate talking about myself and often can’t think of random facts about me, but as I write this, I find I am unable to stop.

Alex:

1. As a kid, I would catch snakes outside and carry them around the farm – the same farm we now call Hay Creek Homestead.
2. I am a pretty darn good welder.
3. I love animals – a little too much. When Mrs. Homesteader needs a spider or an insect killed, I often don’t do it. And when I am on the lawn mower, I stop cutting grass to make sure the frogs, toads, skinks, and snakes get away safely.
4. I have had two back surgeries.
5. I am not a fan of vegetables – I prefer pizza, hot dogs, and chicken pot pie – my source of vegetables other than wifey tricking me into eating them.
6. I own a lot of vehicles (Julie does not approve). The most owned at one time was 32.
7. My full-time job is an automotive technician – I love doing engine repair.
8. I consider myself to be somewhat of a comedian. I enjoy making other people happy.
9. I am afraid of heights and terrified of roller coasters, but I enjoy waterslides.
10. My favorite modern musical group is Volbeat. I also enjoy listening to orchestral music and bagpipes.
11. I met the love of my life at a car dealership where we both worked at the time.
12. I enjoy building things – trailers, tools, and I add lights to everything. I learn by doing and by trial and error.
13. My favorite movie is Backdraft. I often watch the same movies over and over – as a result, I can quote many movies.
14. My dad is my hero. I lost him in 2017 and I miss him everyday.
15. I would love to go visit Alaska someday.
